Auto-Buy Authors

Something that is quite common in the bookish community is having certain authors which you “auto-buy” their books. This is when you will buy any new release from a specific author almost irrelevant of the content of the book, just because of who it is written by and that you know that you will like their writing and stories. I think this is a really interesting concept, and so I thought I’d talk a bit today about some of my personal auto-buy authors and also how some authors have come on and off that list!

I think I only have three true auto-buy authors, John Green, Maggie Stiefvater and Adam Silvera. Two of these have been auto-buy authors for many years, whereas Adam Silvera is a much more recent addition however I am sure he will be staying on this list for a very long time!!

John Green was my first ever auto-buy author. After reading ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ in 2012 I fell in love with John Green’s writing straight away and very rapidly bought all of his other published works and read them! I couldn’t truly call him an auto-buy author then though as there were no new releases on the horizon! However, at the end of last year ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ was announced and as soon as this happened I pre-ordered it, solidifying John Green as one of my auto-buy authors.

Maggie Stiefvater has also been an auto-buy author for me for quite a few years since I read ‘Ballad’ and ‘Lament’ and ‘The Scorpio Races’! Then having read The Raven Cycle and ‘All The Crooked Saints’ very recently I know that as soon as The Dreamer Trilogy is released I will be buying it and devouring it! I absolutely cannot wait! I know Maggie Stiefvater will be staying on my auto-buy authors list for a very long time, her writing is just exquisite and the worlds she creates I could get lost in forever!

Adam Silvera is an author I only discovered since getting back into reading last year and found out about booktube, I heard about him because of his newest release, ‘They Both Die At The End’ which I picked up when I was in America in the summer (you can find a full review of that here). As soon as I read that book I knew I would be reading more! I have now read ‘More Happy Than Not’ (review can be found here) and will be picking up ‘History Is All You Left Me’ sometime soon I am sure! I am already planning to pick up his new book written with Becky Albertalli that is being released in October, and any other releases after that!

There are some authors which have come on and off this list over the years, not necessarily for any specific reason or because I stopped enjoying their books, but simply because I already have so many books to read I don’t want to buy too many and overwhelm myself! A good example of this is Lauren Oliver. I adore her books and have read many of them, but until I have caught up and read most of the books she has released so far I probably won’t be getting any new releases! Though it is very likely she will return to my list once I have caught up with all of her current releases!

I think that as time goes on my list of auto-buy authors will continue to evolve and I cannot wait to see how this happens over the next few years!
