[Blog Tour] ‘Summer Bird Blue’ – Akemi Dawn Bowman

Hi there everyone! As many of you will know I have been on a hiatus recently due to struggling a lot with university work and just life in general, but I do have a fun post for you all today! I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of Summer Bird Blue from Ink Road (thank you to them) which I am currently reading and absolutely loving! I am just over halfway through it at the moment and am hoping to finish it tomorrow, so keep your eyes open for a full review coming very soon, I can already tell it is going to be a good one!

But for now, I thought I would share a little post with you about what music means to me, and some of my favourite artists and songs! Music is a central and very important aspect of this book so I thought it would be a nice theme to choose for this post. Music has always been a huge part of my life, I have studied music and played multiple instruments for almost my whole life, but even more present is the music I listen to! I have a very eclectic taste in music, in that I will listen to almost anything, as long as I can sing along to it! So let’s talk through some of my favourite artists!

Panic! At The Disco

Possibly my favourite artist throughout most of my life is Panic! At The Disco, they produce such varied music that I find absolutely fascinating to listen to on repeat! Also, there are definitely some of their songs which have helped me when I am struggling with something, not anything particularly intense but the example that comes to mind is that about a year ago I had a huge life decision to make and I was debating it for weeks but the song High Hopes really encouraged me to do what I wanted instead of what I necessarily thought was “right”. Even now that song inspires me to stick to what I know about myself and to trust my instincts.

This is another artist I have been listening to for years and I adore her music so much! It is so gentle in its style but still packs a real punch with the lyrics and message. A specific song I love and that means a lot to me is Party Tattoos which talks about living in the moment and making the most of opportunities. As someone who is quite introverted, especially if I am tired or stressed, it is very easy to lock myself away in my room with a  book or Netflix, so this song works as a reminder to put myself out there and spend time with friends even if I don’t feel like it at the time, which is extremely important in my opinion.

Taylor Swift

I cannot remember a time when I didn’t listen to Taylor Swift. I love all of her music, back from her country origins through to her more dark pop style now, I adore it all and listen to it all regularly. I can’t pick out a specific song of hers that I find inspiring or that is particularly important to me, but I really respect her both as an artist and person, and I just truly love her music.

I cannot express how much I love Sigrid, she is fun and upbeat and her music reflects this so wholeheartedly whilst also being so catchy and amazing to listen to! I have watched her perform live and her love for what she does is just infectious and inspiring! She dances around the stage like a teenager in their bedroom, no choreography and not a single care in the world what people think of her. I love that attitude and aspire to live my life like that whenever I can!

Billie Eilish

I don’t know where to start with my love for Billie Eilish and her music! She is incredible and the fact that she has achieved so much so young and is still completely grounded and like any other teenager, it is just fantastic, and I am so excited to see her grow more and more over the next few years. A song of hers I especially love is you should see me in a crown which is just badass and really motivates me to work and just crush all the goals I set myself! I never feel more powerful than when I am blasting that song!

Musical Theatre

There is no way I could write a post about music I love and not mention musicals! Musical theatre has been a huge part of my life for so many years and I love so many I can’t even begin to list them, but here are a few of my favourites: Be More ChillThe Last Five YearsDear Evan HansenNewsiesWaitressCome From AwayHamiltonWest Side Story… There are so many more! I listen to musicals all the time and know all the words to far too many! Listening to and watching musicals is one of my biggest sources of joy and I don’t know what I would do without them!

Even If It’s A Lie – Matt Maltese

This is just a song I have adored for years and I am putting it here on the hope someone will listen to it and also love it! No special meaning, just an absolutely incredible song!

So that is all the music I love and what it means to me! You can see from this how large a role music plays in my life, and this is only a tiny selection of my favourites! Tell me your favourite artists or songs in the comments!
